WORKSHOP RESOURCES
Below are handouts and demonstrations to help you prepare for teaching your painting workshops!
THE 13 STEPS
Each painting tells a story, a story that unfolds as we create. When we begin a painting journey we work with intentions that are connected with the theme of the workshop, your curriculum. Steps can be adjusted or re-arranged according to time, process and the other modalities that are woven in.
The 13 Steps aren’t a finite recipe, but a process for building a painting layer by layer, designed especially for those that are new to painting, to create around the chosen theme. You demonstrate each step – inviting the entire class to come stand at your painting with you. During the class, you continue to weave back to the curriculum.
Any time you aren’t sure where to go, or need to take a break, have them journal or partner up and talk about where they are.
When teaching from the 13 steps, you do not need to read THEM the steps or even call it a step, or even say what the title of the step is. YOU CAN, but you don’t need to, this is your personal style coming through – you can just say – “next we are going to…”

We recommend creating cue cards for yourself with the steps on the front and some notes on the back. (Cards shown are by Tekla Utterström)
