SUPPLIES & PREPARATION

For this series you will use one of your large canvases. Shiloh demonstrates on a 4x5 foot canvas but you can use one of your 3x4. Supplies are as shared in your Color of Woman Materials list. Note that black gesso will be needed for Moon 01 or black paint works as well.

There are monthly art journal prompts with Jenafer Joy in this series which are not required but are excellent. Her specific recommended supplies are journal with thick paper (Canson XL Mix Media Pads 9×12), basic collage supplies: scissors, glue (she uses Elmer's glue stick) plus random magazines or a collage image stash. watercolor pencils in a short rainbow of colors (Highly recommend "Inktense" from Derwent), thick waterproof pen (Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens “B” Brush Nib in Black is an excellent no smell alternative to sharpie) you might toss in the (White Sakura Gelly Roll Regular Gel Ink Pen – 0.4 mm) as well.

Oh ye dangerous women enter at the left turn where you see the giant jar of black gesso made from the black of black holes. Then follow the red thread to where I am waiting for you.

May this 13 moon 13 chapter experience be a blessing in whatever form it chooses to take.

We are not making a product.
We are exploring consciousness at the root.

MOON 01: CONTEXT

PART ONE DEDICATION AND ENCODINGS

[00:00] Listen to Shiloh Sophia share about the lineage of inquiries in the Intentional Creativity Movement, activating the backward and forward question mark koans of this 13 moon journey. Introduction of creating with intention to awaken the stream of consciousness.

[22:54] Invitation to mark your canvas knowing everything will be covered with black gesso: add yourself and the course name, your question marks and infinity.... Consider marking dates on the side of the canvas in sharpie and documenting your journey.

[27:37] Mix up a "soul color" and fill the canvas with your own codes while listening. (Music by Lavender Grace)

*our sincere apologies for the mic rub noise in this segment.

PART TWO: MYSTERY

[00:00] Invitation to reflect on the metacognitive process - to note what arose while painting.  Activating the Visionary Screen as a connection to the canvas. Invitation to journal throughout the process including creating a page with a codex of the types of things that arise. Plus Bye bye meatdress disclaimer.

[11:30] Introduction to adding the black gesso as a representation of of the quantum potential of you, covering and building on the encoding matrix. Inquiry: What aspect of your identity will you ritually lay down as you show up for Codex?

[13:43] Paint along with Shiloh Sophia covering your canvas in black gesso. (Music by Lavender Grace)

The night sky is an integral aspect of our inquiry.
What does the sky look like now?
What did it look like at your birth?

For the next step of the painting Shiloh Sophia recommended visiting https://create-us.thenightsky.com/ to view the details of your birth sky.

(Order a print if you'd like or simply use a screenshot of the page for reference.)

PART THREE: CONSTELLATIONS

[00:00] Consider how you will choose to add the constellation of your arrival. Shiloh demos adding varnish to the canvas (matte medium will also work) and collaging on a print out of her night sky. From there

  • add a dot to represent you and then other stars around you
  • work with the star map in your journal to create a composition and then add to the canvas
  • using a large brush (dry) and white paint, flick the bristles to create constellations. Note this is easier flat and a toothbrush works really well if you can't get your paint brush to behave as demoed.
  • Add star shapes by circling big stars in clusters and then adding lines off some.
  • Add the Codex graphic - circle with dot in center and in four directions. "I am here, inside this constellation, inside these four directions and I am a part of everything."

As you paint engage in the inquiry of who you are as a cosmic pilgrim. What is your place in the universe?

PART FOUR: ARRIVAL

[00:00] Invitation to symbolically represent your arrival on Earth. Connecting the heavens and earth with you in the middle.

Note - you'll want to document your intention for Codex in your journal or write it on the back of the canvas. If you aren't clear, you could do the "claim your journal" process first (find it below) to help you clear the way!

MOON 02: CONSCIOUSNESS

PART ONE: INQUIRY

[0:00] What does it mean to be conscious? Are you awake as you can be? How would I expand and awaken?

PART TWO: CONNECTED

[0:00] Active Visioning to arrive

[2:00] Follow the brush to add a line of red paint and make a line of arriving.

[3:15] Shiloh shares what she added to her canvas between sessions.

[5:15] A Red Thread Circle of Connection. Step onto your path. What is your piece?

[9:30] Make a red stroke that indicates that you know you are connected and held.

PART THREE: REVERB

[0:00] Spend an hour doing a meditation in paint. Moving the brush while you focus on the inquiry of exploring your own consciousness.

[2:20] Demo of "reverb" technique

[6:30] Demo of the interstitial connection marks

PART FOUR: INSIGHT

[0:00] Adding the shape of the Milky Way with your eyes closed.

[4:20] Add white flicks of stars

[5:30] Add your "flash of insight"

PART FIVE: AWAKE

[0:00] Make your own declaration of choosing to embody your consciousness and populating the painting with your flash of insight color.

PART SIX: PROVOKE

[0:00] "To really bring change to our life we can't just think about it, we actually have to move into it." "You have active agency but if you don't act like it you're going to be taken on and over by other systems, patterns, energies and beliefs."

[2:00] Shiloh varnishes over her nightsky paper.

[2:45] Invitation to do some journaling to create an awake symbol. Add symbol and the word awake to a piece of paper, rumple it up and add to canvas using varnish and then glaze with the color of your insight. (Narrator note - "Medium" gloss or matte will work for this as well)

PART SEVEN: INTEGRATION

[0:00] Put on some music, grab a big ol brush and another color to the in between spaces to practice invoking integration.

[5:00] Do a second round with a smaller brush, marking in between  smaller spaces.

MOON TWO ART JOURNALING

We're experimenting with a hands on experience of consciousness using single line drawings. What is the unique "consciousness" of your hands? How does the use of the non dominant hand for drawing and writing affect the information? Does an inanimate object have unique consciousness? Does the addition of red pencil and or water change the equation? Let's explore!

MOON 03: PERSPECTIVE

PART ONE: WITNESS

[0:00] Where would we be without perspective, the capacity to look at things from different frames of reference. Add the eye of witness to your painting.
"The perspective I take regarding Intentional Creativity is that it is lifesaving. And I know it is for me because it connects me to myself. It connects me to how I actually feel. And when I create and listen I begin to gain access to information that was hidden."

PART TWO: FRAGMENTATION

[0:00] Amplify the space of seeing - feeling the feeling of expanding your perspective while working with the design of the eye.

[3:20] Inside eyes and outside eyes teaching. Honor early seeing in utero, when you started making marks in ritual marks on the canvas. Continuing to honor externalized forms and embellished forms.

[15:50] Making a connection to the fragmentation of inside and outside seeing. Painting a line to acknowledge the separation and reflecting while you glaze and work with color.

[19:44] The schism of inside and outside has cost us everything.

PART THREE: EYES

[0:00] Healing through witness.  Paint and develop a representation of the interior eyes on one side of the canvas.

[5:30] On the other side of the canvas paint and develop a representation of the outside seeing eyes while exploring the concepts.

PART FOUR: INTEGRATION

[0:00] Create a ritual mark integrating the inside and outside seeing eyes.

PART FIVE: ENERGY

[0:00] Do a slow glaze (layers of glaze working with drips) asking your whole body to become integrated.

"As the imagination is working along with the energy body, healing is happening. The other thing that is happening is that your eyes are seeing this happening and the information goes through your eyes to your brain. And then you have the accompanying story that we are creating an integration.... From my perspective I believe that this is actually happening. That if you are ready and you desire it, the fragmentation is being healed."

[9:00] Spend some time playing in the space of the idea of integration and medicine painting. When you feel the intuitive pull to bring in something new,  ask yourself what does this represent? (sometimes there is and sometimes there isn't)

[12:00]  Give the canvas a spray when its almost dry and wipe away and reveal sections. (Narrator Note  - this technique is now referred to as "burnishing")

PART SIX: STRUCTURE

[0:00] Explore perspective of distance and shape. Adding structure while allowing form. Paint line,  reverb and echo while exploring the inquiry: what is the shape of the information?

PART SEVEN: INTEGRATION

[0:00] Bring to your journal - What perspectives shifted for you during this session?

[1:00] Eyes closed adding a line claiming your integrated essence.

You'll need a half hour, magazine & glue and a willingness to be surprised. Note that the second half of the video includes the "secret decoder key" to this perspective game - so get ready to hit pause. It's WAY more fun if you don't know which direction the collage is taking you!

MOON 04: OBSERVER

PART ONE: INQUIRY

[0:00] "Peanut Butter for the Muse" from Tea with the Midnight Muse What is your relationship with your Muse...and the Critic?

PART TWO: LISTENING

[0:00] Discussion of the Muse as an extension of your own truest voice.  Who looks out from these eyes?

[4:55] The invitation is to begin to listen for the voice of the Muse and to see what happens. Choose a color that you wouldn't usually use. Go slow, pick a part of the painting that already has a shape and let the Muse lead - filling while leaving the glow. Consider putting on music without words turned up loud and color and listen. What arises?

PART THREE: INVITATION

[0:00] What did you notice of chatter or fragmentation? Getting conscious about how your voice has been operating.

[2:50] Invite the Critic to tea! Pick a different color and make marks while observing the voice of the Critic. When you're done thank them and close the loop "I'm complete with listening".

PART FOUR: HONORING

[0:00] What did you notice? When you observe something you change and you change the thing you're looking at.

"Notice how choosing to move into the seat of the Observer of your own voice and your own experience actually truly impacts how this body soul thing works. And then the persona identity that lives within that whole framework begins to work differently when you choose to become a curious observer of your own experience. This, dear hearts, is life altering."

[2:00] Invitation to reclaim the fragmented voice as an observer, just as we reclaimed inside/outside eyes. Do I remember the time when I was separated from what I was separated from my true voice? Do I remember a time when I could hear my voice? Was there a specific incident that caused you to shut down from listening?

[3:25] Bring marks to the canvas that honor a moment or overall experience of feeling the separation from being able to hear yourself.

PART FIVE: VOICE

[0:00] Explanation of the critic as an aspect of the voice that was intended to be fierce discernment.

[6:00] Create an embrace on the canvas, literal or abstract. Take up space. Claim it all. Honor the depth and the shadow. Honor the heights and lights. Following your brush. One true voice.

PART SIX: PRESENCE

[0:00] Flip the canvas to turn the ideas on their head. Bring a face of the Observer into the canvas.

"Now let me just tell you, for this technology of the Critic and the Muse to keep working for you,  you have to keep creating. Otherwise the work will not continue. When you create you listen for the voice of the Muse and you let the voice of the Critic dissolve into the Muse so that the Muse has depths and heights and plenty of room to move."

PART ONE: SURRENDER

[0:00] Pour on white, yellow, spray. Read the canvas with your fingertips. What is consciousness?

PART TWO: STREAM

[0:00] What is this stream of consciousness connected to this physical persona. Add a stream of consciousness, populating the stream with ideas. Make bold shapes to activate a fresh co-creative space.

PART THREE: HONOR

[0:00] Mix a dark rich color for the unconscious, honoring the unknown, honoring constraints.

PART FOUR: SUPRA

[0:00] Metacognitive painting thinking about your relationship with the cosmos/heavens/divine.

PART FIVE: ACCESS

[0:00] Exploring "Sub"conscious and dimensionality.  We have chosen access to this realm. Make a mark: I have access.

PART SIX: CURATING SUB

[0:00] Metacognitive painting of the in-between spaces while exploring placement/ rearrangement of the subconscious.

PART SEVEN: IMAGINATION

[0:00] We are at cause to change, to create from a space that is less inhibited! Ask for your entire consciousness to be clear!

MOON FIVE ART JOURNALING

This month is all about exploring and arranging the Layers of Consciousness. In this journal game I'm inviting you to be extra loose about intuitively creating a visual display of your layers. I found it wild what "wanted to be included" and then how strongly I got information about "where it wanted to go". When we use images we give our souls a chance to speak in new ways - ways that we can actually hear. So even if you don't feel like doing collage, watch and consider: What if the layers of consciousness can be rearranged? What if you can use topic and approach to access surprising messages? How does play give you new information?

MOON 06: ALLOWING

PART ONE: INVITATION

[0:00] Allowing and engaging. What wants to come forward? Let yourself be changed by beauty! Can you have an experience of freedom?

PART TWO: BRAVE

[0:00] Actively breaking patterns. Practice using a series of colors that you don't usually, that don't necessarily go with your existing palette. Glazing & spraying and burnishing sections. Rub hard, have fun!

PART THREE: BEAMS OF LIGHT

[0:00] Using white plus a bit of another color and a dry flat brush pick angles in the composition and add beams of light. Consider turning the canvas and continuing. Repeating in a variety of colors.

PART FOUR: DELINEATION

[0:00] Switching to a smaller flat brush and repeat the patter. Then consider blending out from a shape using a smaller round brush. Adding lines of delineation.

PART FIVE: DEEPENING

[0:00] Using dark to pull out one side of the face (or dominant shape you're working with) and also any lines you want to stand out. Using your prismatic darks to deepen. Allowing change.

PART SIX: UNWRITTEN

[0:00] Using a liner brush and any color, write without writing. Making the shape of writing, allowing information come to you.

She Rides the Equal Sign

The architecture of my awareness surges
Envelope shaped openings fall
as cosmic leaves into my mindscape

Will I be able to sustain knowing?
I mean, direct knowing, as in, full awareness
no matter how momentary?

Now that I am awake to what is
The battle cry dissolves
Instead of strength, I feel the swoon

But, I want to rage against the machine!
I watch as the rebel queen rides off
into the sunset to the badlands

I am left in a pile of rose petals
My eyes inside my sweetness of soul
and the eyes outside, become one view

This softness, this falling in love Is it useful?
Can I wield it like my rage?
Can I use it to fight for justice?

The answer comes in a river
washing my heart clean of desire
“for now you rest in beauty”

For now I rest in beauty? WTF!
There is work to do! I have to...have to...
My body will not respond to the old ways

The old ways require I give everything
My old ways have been raised in fight
My new way wants only love and flight!

I mourn my fanciful fierce former self
Feeling uncomfortable in the softening
Of skin, soul, self into something…else

What I am, I do not know yet
The metamorphic soup is stirring me
What I once knew, has left me

Something new is coming, I think
But it has not yet arrived,
I am Between worlds again, and again

Intentional creation shows me the way
The tools of my trade are in plain sight
Perhaps they are the only thing that is

If I have those, I don't need anything else
Instead of a shield of protection
See this palette full of colorful choice?

My tools have been forged by unseen hands
My flaming brush full of sparks
My pen of fire making light in darkness

Story unfurls itself from the cosmic curl
Stars pour out bright with conscious moonlight
Stories I am not yet allowed to read

I understand this awareness comes
When I am aware of growing older, not yet bolder
When the wiser part has yet to take hold

The flesh tugs down instead of up
Hair turns silver instead of blonde
Feet grow larger to steady me

The whiskers come out in two by two
My thighs sprout new fur
My breasts request to be unbound

I understand this codex comes
When I am moving through gravity
The dark before the dawn is not yet clear

If I have story, brush, pen, leaf, scroll,
wheel, moon, star, enough colors for everyone,
with open heart of hearing, I am whole, enough

I am artist
This is my craft and my medicine
This is how I live and love and give

I am artist, yet not my label not my identity
This archetype is a holy house I move though
More of a vehicle than destination

I pause here to have tea with the muse
the other muses passing through meet
we take a skinny dip into consciousness

"They say you cannot see the particle
as it changes to wave at us
Cannot see the matter becoming energy again

Is this true?
Really true?
What is true?" We ask incredulous

This is where I live, here in the mystery
In the space just before the energy cools
Condenses, coalesces and occupies matter

This canvas is still cooling
For 13 new moons I labored,
starting with my birth constellation 49 years ago

I ride the equal sign to class each day
The equation of potential
is the horse I ride in on, giddy up!

I invite us to look where we are not looking
To hear where we are not hearing clearly
To read our hidden pages within, seek them!

Seek your hidden pages dear one,
Do not cease your exploration of the unseen
The revealing is happening right now

If you are sincere,
and quick as the muse, turn now, quick!
See, the changing particle wave at you?

I am stardust becoming human
becoming star becoming soul
becoming my design, oh how divine!

I ride the equal sign!
