Schedule

Please note that the schedule is subject to change. We will notify you as far in advance as possible of any changes to the schedule. All times listed are Pacific Time. Please convert to your timezone HERE. Items in blue are community events that you are invited to attend. These are optional enrichment activities for your journey.

General outline for the schedule each month:

  • Week One: MYSTICAL PAINTING LIVESTREAM - first Friday of the month, 11a - 1p (sometimes we go a bit over - so plan to get ready 15 minutes before and create some wiggle room after)
  • Week Three: QUANTUM TEMPLE ZOOM CALL - third Monday of the month, 1p - 2:30p
  • Optional suggested enrichment activity: MYSTIC SLUMBER PARTY - Several times throughout the year.
  • Wheel of the Year Ceremonies - Following the seasonal wheel of the year 10-11:30a

FOR JANUARY the schedule is slightly altered, as this is our opening month:

  • 1st: Welcome (Video) - 10am

  •  5th: Opening Red Thread Call (Zoom) - 1p - 2:30p

  •  9th: Mystical Painting Livestream - 11a - 1p

From February through December, the schedule follows the general outline above.

Description of Offerings

  • Painting Livestream - This is our mystical field time. Have your journal, and painting materials ready every single time. Paint in real-time or watch and do it on your own. Making it magic. The recording is available instantly.
  • Quantum Temple: Time to connect with other mystics. This call is most often guided by Intentional Creativity Guild members. This is not content-based but experience-based and we will do breakout rooms for connection. You will also experience an open mic and a chance to share your poetry.
  • The Mystic Slumber Party is an optional 24-hour period starting at noon PST and going through the following day at noon where everyone is sharing and caring. People can call spontaneous Zooms, share music, and gather together. It is a time to just be in the field together. Also a time to get caught up and ask questions of peers. This is a non-superivised party, but pajamas are invited! This activity will be organized and run by the cohort. This will not happen on every month!

Cura Council Ceremonies - Also woven into our time are seasonal ceremonies with the whole community. These follow the Equinoxes and Solstices through the Wheel of the Year. This is the space all community members come together.

Everything on this calendar is viewable in the classroom including the livestreams.

MUSEA Painting Materials

Consider this your permission slip to have fun shopping for your materials and preparing your studio! We highly recommend a visit to a local art store, as seeing and touching the materials before purchasing is so satisfying. For online shopping in the US, we use www.dickblick.com.

We are going to be painting together and you get to set up your space your way. Maybe you will even name your studio and hang a sign on the door! The list below are basic materials needed for our time together. A more detailed list of materials is linked below.

FOR PROCESS

  • 1 blank writing journal for poetry writing. Consider buying something decorative with nice paper, something to cherish which contains your writings throughout our time together.
  • 1 sheet of 22x30 watercolor paper (140lb)

FOR PAINTING

  • Canvas: One large canvas, minimum dimension is 48" (i.e., 48" x 60"), meaning at least 48" on one side. Try to get the gallery wrap over one inch, as it is more stable.
  •  Brushes: You’ll want an assortment, starting with a big one like a Sash brush, a larger filbert, rounds, flats, and at least one smaller liner brush for detail. A variety of sizes and angles are good.
  •  Studio: Get set up, including paints, brushes, etc. If you are new to painting, please continue reading below for a comprehensive list of specific recommendations.

BASIC PAINT SUPPLIES

  • Canvas/Wood: Any depth of canvas is fine (museum, gallery etc). In comparison to the splined option, the cheaper "stapled" backing is more likely to bunch up and stop laying flat. Check the course list for recommended canvas size or use what you have! Premade wood panels from www.usaoncanvas.com
  • Easel/table/wall. For smaller paintings you can lay flat on a table. For canvases over an arm's length you will need a sturdy upright easel or you can place canvas suspended by nails/screws directly against the wall.
  • Paint. You'll need a collection of acrylic paint in a basic rainbow of colors. (ie any red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white, brown & black.) Shiloh Sophia uses GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics but non fluid paints and brands besides Golden are workable. Use no more than 50% water or Review our specific Golden acrylic paint recommendations below including the transparent colors needed for glazing.
  • Brushes. You’ll want an assortment, starting with a big ones like a Sash brush, a larger filbert, rounds, flats and one smaller liner brush for detail. A variety of sizes and angles are good. Be sure to get some hog hair or natural bristle brushes, they are stiff and perfect for the "scrubbing" method. Start with 5 and build up to around 30 brushes by adding a few to your supply with each course.
  • Spray bottles: fine mist and large spray
  • Paint palette (or use a plate or small canvas)
  • Artist soap for cleaning brushes
  • Also gather painting smock/clothes that you can get paint on, several jars for paint water, paper towels and also a few rags (old t-shirts rock for this)

Additional Recommendations

  • Palette Knife (medium size)
  • Black Gesso or White Gesso to layer on the canvas or board at the beginning of your painting (surfaces can absorb extra paint and gesso is cost effective.)
  • Liquitex gloss medium
  • Foam brushes (good for marking)
  • Drawing pencils, vine black charcoal + white chalk
  • Small container of glitter
  • Dropcloth or rug to protect the floor if needed
  • A special box, bag or basket to hold all of your supplies

Specific Golden Acrylic Paint Recommendations

Golden is more expensive but worth it! Note that these are the Fluid Style. You can use other brands but they will behave slightly differently than demonstrated.

IMPORTANT GOLDEN BRAND (for glazing)

  • Quinacridone Magenta
  • Phthalo Turquoise
  • Azo Gold

Plus a rainbow of colors (Golden brand colors in parenthesis but other brands okay)

  • White (Titanium)
  • Red (Pyrole Red or Cadmium Red)
  • Orange (Cadmium Orange)
  • Yellow (Diarylide Yellow or Hansa Yellow)
  • Green (Phthalo Green)
  • Blue (Phthalo Blue or Ultramarine Blue)
  • Brown (Van Dyke Brown )
  • Black (Bone Black)

Plus additions if you have the budget (*are good for glazing)

  • Quinacridone Crimson*
  • Transparent Red Iron Oxide*
  • Buff Titanium
  • Burnt Umber Light
  • Quinacridone Violet*
  • Green Gold
  • Cobalt Teal
  • Dioxazine Purple*
  • Iridescents (One or more Gold, Copper, Silver, Bronze)

Add a few heavy body paints for thick applications. White is a must plus other favorite colors.

What size? We recommend at least 4 oz for the main colors. 1 oz (or 1/2 oz) is okay for experimenting but you will likely need to restock your favorite colors quickly.

A note for those in dry hot climates wrestling with the paint drying too fast - Golden Brand "Open" style acrylic paint is designed to dry more slowly. Many Guild members also recommend the Golden Brand "Retarder" which keeps paints open.
